Charles William Dill, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William J. and Ida D. Dill. He was the husband of Shirley Frances Uebel Dill, his wife of 55 years.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1955 to 1963. He worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric for 43 years and retired from the company in 1994.

He was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Catonsville and current longtime member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Eldersburg. He was an avid softball player his entire life, and enjoyed playing with the Howard County Seniors in the Baltimore Beltway Senior Softball League from 1994 until 2004. He enjoyed playing the role of Santa Claus for many years, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law Lisa and Andrew Fletcher and Karen and Jim Rund, all of Finksburg; sisters and brother-in-law Ruth Shipley and Nancy Mills, both of Baltimore, and Betty and Bill Cook, of Selbyville, Del.; and grandchildren Allison and Christine Fletcher and Leanne and Philip Rund, all of Finksburg.

He was predeceased by siblings Hilda Elburn, Lillie Chapman, Mary DiAngelo, Ilean Brinkmeyer and Doris Koslowski.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2205 Old Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will follow in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.
