Charles W. Metcalf Sr., 68, of Westminster, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at home.

Born Feb. 18, 1945, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Katherine Walker Bushman. He was the husband of Martha Metcalf, his wife of 49 years.

He was a commercial plumbing foreman until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed taking trips to Ocean City and Atlantic City with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Martha Harley and spouse Larry Harley, of Westminster, Charles Metcalf Jr., of Littlestown, Pa., Kathy Metcalf, of Littlestown, Bernadette Metcalf, of Hanover, Pa., and Kris Metcalf and spouse Becky Metcalf, of Hanover; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Estelle Ament; and a brother-in-law, Mike Ament.

He believed in the necessity of medical research and donated his body to Johns Hopkins.

A memorial service will be held at the Gates of Praise Worship Center in Littlestown at a later date.
