Christine Rosella Jones, 92, of Union Bridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House after a brief illness.

Born Feb. 9, 1920, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late George Hanson Howard and Minnie Alma Jackson Howard. She was the wife of Daniel W. Jones Sr., who died in 2005.

She attended Bowie State College, was the first black foster parent in Carroll County and was a homemaker, and she worked as a hairdresser and a daycare provider.

She was a member of the Gospel Spreading Church of God, where she was in charge of The Purity Club, and served on the usher board and as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Willing Workers and helped with Bible school, was a member of Sisters of Faith and the Strawbridge United Methodist Women.

She attended West End Place Senior Center and enjoyed cooking, playing games and cards, especially Flinch with her sisters and brothers, eating out and always maintained a good sense of humor.

Surviving are daughters Diana Lynch-DeMarr and husband Samuel, of Union Bridge, and Rose Hill and husband Clarence, of Baltimore; a son, Daniel W. Jones Jr., of Fairfield, Pa.; grandchildren Catherine Jones-Stewart, Heather Jones, John Sollers and Christian Hill; great-grandchildren Isaiah Daniel Stewart and Autumn Hill; a sister-in-law, Edith Howard, of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters Nellie Owens and Jewell Brown; and brothers Truman, Herbert, Austin, Joseph and George Howard.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service, noon Monday at Uniontown Bible Church, 4272 Watson Lane, near Linwood, with the Rev. Marshall Jamie Green, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, near New Windsor.
