Clarence Albert "Corky" Leppo Jr. age 94, of Union Bridge, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home, with his family by his side. Born March 12, 1924 in Patapsco, he was the son of the late Clarence Albert Sr. and Alice Ann Arbaugh Leppo. He was the husband for 58 years of Ellen Rinehart Leppo who died in 2003. Corky was a 1942 graduate of Westminster High School and served in the U.S. Army 3rd Division with the motor pool in the European Theater. He worked many jobs - in earlier years he was a truck driver hauling mail for various communities, then with Glenn L. Martin Co., Crown Cork & Seal Co., Leidy's and in 1952 he became employed at Fort Detrick's Water Plant 19, retiring after 26 years. He was a member of the Bark Hill Bible Church (always went to church, even as a youngster), American Legion Post 297 in Sykesville, and was a charter member of the Mountain View Cemetery board. He was a former Boy Scout Master, leading Troop 330 of Union Bridge from 1954 - 1965. For many years he and a group of friends enjoyed going to breakfast on Saturday mornings. Corky was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed traveling to the western states and working with his lawn service. He collected pocket knives and all types of watches. Surviving are daughters, Sue Wantz and husband Bob of Union Bridge, and Krisie Chrobot and husband Mike, of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Shannon Harley and husband Michael, Erin Staub and husband Tyler and Sam R. Leppo II and wife Eleni and 5 great grandchildren, Malachi and Blair Harley, Sam R. III, Maria and Abby Leppo. He was predeceased by son, Sam Rinehart Leppo in 1999, daughter Joan Leppo in 2010 and daughter-in-law, Ruth Freyman Leppo in 2013. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 5, at 11:00 AM at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Rev. Dr. Tom Darner former pastor officiating. Military interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Union Bridge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, April 4, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bark Hill Bible Church, 4352 Bark Hill Road, Union Bridge, MD, 21791.
