Claude Manning Sr., 83, of Finksburg, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Transitions Healthcare in Sykesville, after an illness of two years.

Born Feb. 9, 1930, in Tennessee, he was the son of the late William and Mattie Gibson Manning.

He had served in the Army as an engineer, seeing action in Korea. He was a beef farmer, then worked for Westminster Shoe Factory, and retired as a home improvement contractor, working with his son.

Surviving are son Claude D. Manning Jr. and wife Terry, of Littlestown, Pa.; six grandchildren; a sister, Flora Lyda, of North Carolina; a longtime companion, Irene Long, of Finksburg; and former wife, Sarah L. Muth and husband James C., of West Virginia.

He was predeceased by sons Timothy G. Manning, who died in 1995 and Randy L. Manning, who died in 2011; a sister; and four brothers.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.
