Clyde Leroy "Bucky" Shaffer, 93, of Westminster, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice.

Born Sept. 27, 1920, in Newton Hamilton, Pa., he was the son of the late Mary Varner Shaffer and George W. Shaffer. He was the husband of the late Jane McCarty Shaffer.

His early childhood was spent in Newton Hamilton and Mt. Union before entering Gerard College in Philadelphia. He was united in marriage to Jane McCarty June 11, 1955 in Dundalk, where they raised a family.

He was a Methodist all his life and a long time member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees. He was also a member of the American Legion Carroll Post No. 31.

During his lifetime, he was a pastry baker, a railroader and a steel worker, retiring from Bethlehem Steel in 1985. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific.

Surviving is daughter Gretchen Shaffer, of Owings Mills, and son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Peggy Shaffer, of Dundalk; brother Denton Shaffer, of Bradenton, Fla.; one grandson, two great-granddaughters and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marguerita Boone, and two brothers, Glen and Earl Shaffer.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Deer Park United Methodist Church, 2205 Sykesville Rd., Westminster, with the Rev. Pat Dols officiating. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deer Park United Methodist Church.
