Cora Varina Smith, age 92, of Eldersburg, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Sun Valley at Homestead. Born March 23, 1925, in Woodlawn, MD she was the daughter of the late James W. Frank and Lillian Alberta Clauss Frank. She was the wife of the late Theodore Earl Smith who passed away in 2007. Varina had worked in mail orders for Montgomery Wards for many years. She was a long time member of Wards Chapel United Methodist Church. Varina was involved in many activities and roles at the church which included teaching Sunday School and Board of Trustees. She was a member of the Holbrook Homemakers, Liberty Good Timers and had attended the Liberty Senior Center. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and David Horn of Eldersburg and Robin and Jeff Shipley of Frederick, MD; sister Shirley Tucker of Eldersburg; grandchildren, Daniel, Shari, Terri and Michael; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Cassie, Harley, Autumn, Cameryn, Luke and Wesley and great-great-grandson, Kaiden. She was predeceased by siblings, Eddie Frank, Nancy Tavenner and Be Be Frank. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11am at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, 11023 Liberty Road, Randallstown. Interment will follow in Wards Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wards Chapel Heritage Trust.
