C.R. "Russ" Schaeffer Jr., was born 13 Oct 1924 in Westminster, MD to Carroll Russell Schaeffer and Elizabelle Smith Schaeffer. He died 30 Mar 2016 in Waynesboro, PA at the age of 91. C.R. graduated from Westminster High School class of 1941 later going to Mercersburg Academy and graduated Western Maryland College with a bachelor in economics in 1949. He served in the US Army during WWII in the 15th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. C.R. married Phyllis (Green) Schaeffer in May 1947. He is survived by his son, C. Russell Schaeffer III, daughters-in-law Cheryl J. Schaeffer and Cheryl C. Schaeffer, grandson William Russell Schaeffer, brother William Smith Schaeffer, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Phyllis, and oldest son John Kessler Schaeffer. C.R. was a Surety Bond Underwriter and Manager for 40 years working in the cities of Baltimore, New Jersey, New York, Toronto and Los Angeles. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro, PA, BPOE lodge 731, 15th FAOB Assn, and the Waynesboro Country Club. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 15, 2016 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro. Burial will be in Krider's Church Cemetery, Westminster, MD. There will be no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the 1-(855)-619-4376.
