Daniel R. Champness, 84, of Westminster, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Baltimore, he was the husband of Joan Trail Champness, his wife of 59 years.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He retired from Frankel Cadillac in 1998.

He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Country Club of Maryland.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Daniel R. Champness and wife Janet, of Westminster; daughter Holly McClelland and husband Steve, of Stewartstown, Pa.; grandson Christopher S. McClelland and wife Tracey, of Dover Plains, N.Y.; brother Robert J. Champness and wife Janet, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth J. Champness.

A memorial gathering will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the family home, 2710 Faithful Drive, Westminster.
