David Edward Sluss, 82, of Westminster, passed away on February 16, 2017 at his home. David was born on November 29, 1934 in Baltimore, and was the son of the late David Dewey and Effie Blanche (Reckner) Sluss. Twice married he was the beloved husband of the late Sandra Darby (Carrigo) Sluss, who passed away in 2000, and the husband of Joan Ann (Carrigo) Sluss. David was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was employed as a fireman for the Baltimore City Fire Department, until his retirement in June, 1985. After retirement he worked as a small engine repairman for Sears in both Westminster and Hanover. David was a member of Church of the Open Door. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and gardener. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Susan K. Sluss and companion Dennis Hood of Westminster, and Cynthia A. Weise and husband Walter W., III of Westminster; brother Richard Sluss of Baltimore; grandchildren Walter W. Weise, IV and fiancee Tara Iacovelli, David E. Weise and wife Crystal, Brittney R. Weise and companion Steve Barnett; and nephew Ronald Carrigo and wife Cheri. He was predeceased by siblings Betty Gesser and Ted Sluss. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with his pastor Rev. Dr. John Campbell officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster MD 21157.
