DAVID A. GRAND - former security official, local columnist Grand died at his home in Westminster, MD, on May 25, 2016, of natural causes. During his 28 years with the federal government, he was a security specialist with Headquarters, USAF, the Air Force Systems Command, the Defense Supply Agency, Director of Security for U.S. Department of Transportation, and Deputy U.S. Marshall. Prior to his government service, he was a security officer with the Firestone Guided Missile Division in Los Angeles, and the Lockheed Missile and Space Co., in Sunnyvale, California. Following his retirement he was a contract investigator with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and later, security manager for the Advanced Projects Division of Northrop Corporation's B-2 Division in Los Angeles. A resident of Carroll County since 1990, he wrote columns for the Carroll County Times, the Mt. Airy Gazette, and the Westminster Eagle. Grand was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by four sons, Warren, Stewart, Jeffrey and Martin, and nine grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Beau, and his cat, Precious; he was predeceased by a son, Mark. No funeral service is planned. Per his request, contributions may be made in his name to the Carroll County Humane Society. Address: 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158.
