David Paul Bass Jr., 80, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at home.

Born June 6, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late David Paul and Margaret K. Labor Bass. He was the husband of the late Helen A. Bass.

He had worked as a maintenance mechanic. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He was an airborne ranger in the military.

He enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the NRA, and the Monumental and Carroll County Gun clubs. He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Community in Westminster.

Surviving are sons and daughter-and-law David P., III and Terry Bass, of Westminster and Daniel Bass, of Hanover, Pa.; daughters and son-in-law Faith and David Redmond, of Littlestown, Pa., Melanie Orbash, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Hope Bass, of Westminster; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings Margaret Bowen and Jim Johnson.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road,  Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.
