David Samuel Hoff, Jr., age 74 of Flohrville, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at Future Care Cherrywood in Reisterstown . Born November 12, 1941 in Freedom (Carroll County), he was the son of the late David S. and Mary Ann Hatfield Hoff Sr. He was the husband of S. Irene Dells-Hoff, whom he married at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church on November 17, 1962. He attended Sykesville School from the 1st grade. He graduated from Sykesville High School in 1960. From 1985 until the present, he was a member of the reunion committee. After graduation, he worked for Springfield Hospital Center in the Rehab Department, Black and Decker in Hampstead, and Westinghouse in Sykesville. In June 1969, he went to work for the Clarksville Fire Department in Howard County which later became Howard County Fire Department. He retired from HCFD as a Sergeant with 25 years of service on January 1, 1992. After retiring from HCFD, he founded Water Express, Inc. in 1995, which was a swimming pool water delivery company serving Carroll, Baltimore, and Howard Counties. He was a lifetime member of Sykesville-Freedom Fire Department, which he joined in 1963. He served in various officer positions, including Board of Directors, throughout the years. He was in the top ten firefighters responding to emergency calls for many years. In addition, he served on various committees in the Department. He was a member of the Howard County Retired Firefighters Association and a past member of Westminster Moose, Lodge # 1381. He also worked part time over the years for Wilhelm Fuel Company in Randallstown and Fleming Petroleum Company in Eldersburg for many years. He loved to dance and enjoyed crabbing and fishing. Surviving in addition to his wife are son Michael David Hoff and his significant other Darlene Clapp of Flohrville and sister-in-law, Sandra Dells. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Louise Hoff-Clarke and by his brother-in-law Marvin "Chubby" Clarke and brother-in-law, Charles W. Dells. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10am at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville with fire department chaplain Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. There will be a memorial service by the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department on Sunday at 7:30pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department, P.O. Box 275, Sykesville, MD 21784 or Howard County Retired Firefighters Association, PO Box 233, Woodstock, MD 21163.
