Derwood L. Shaffer, 84, of Westminster, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Carroll Hospital Center. Born Nov. 9, 1930 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Emma Smith Shaffer and Milton E. Shaffer. He retired from Black and Decker and K-Mart in Westminster. He enjoyed blue grass music, bowling and spending time with his family. He is survived by brothers and sisters Alden W. Shaffer of Lineboro, Mary K. and Bernie Eckenrode of Finksburg, Evelyn M. and Gene Miller of Westminster, Wayne E. Shaffer of Hagerstown, a long time friend, Jim Aumiller. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Arneda C. Eckenrode and Jeannie Harris Stonesifer, a brother, Garland E. Shaffer and a sister-in-law, Betty Shaffer. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service; 11 a.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, with Rev. Pat Dols, officiating. Interment will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the , Tribute Giving Center, 8400 Silver Crossing, Oklahoma City, OK 73132 or the , 1701 North Beauregard Street Alexandria, VA 22311.
