Donald Oliver Caples, 81, of Finksburg, MD, entered into rest on May 3, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 27, 1935 in Reisterstown, MD, he was the son of the late Ralph and Violet (Preston) Caples and the husband of Carolyn Laufer Caples. Donald served his country honorably in the US Army. He retired from General Motors Corporation, where he worked as a Security Officer. He was a member of Sandy Mount UMC and member of the Masonic Lodge 145 in Reisterstown. He was an avid model train collector and had a passion for camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family on Assateague Island. His children remember him instilling in them a strong work ethic and respect for their mother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, he is survived by his son, Jeff Caples and wife Robin of McSherrystown, PA; two daughters: Cindy Jean Martin of Finksburg, MD, Bonnie Joyce Caples Maki and husband Perry of Washington Court House, OH; eight grandchildren: Jay Caples and Shannon Cornell, Amanda Caples, Melissa Caples and fiance, 2nd Lt Gregory Miller, Jessica Caples, Carl Martin, Clinton Martin, Kent Maki, Leif Maki; two sisters: Carolyn Doris Heiland and husband William Heiland of Finksburg, MD, Marilyn Blanche Jones of AZ, loving nieces and nephews, and Ion his beloved dog. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, with a Masonic Service offered at 7:15pm at Eline Funeral Home, 2901 Bloom Road, Finksburg, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 11:00 am at Sandy Mount United Methodist Church, 2101 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery (Westminster). Online condolences may be made at
