Donald Huel Campbell, age 90, of Sykesville, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at his home that he had built himself from the ground up. Born February 22, 1928, in Warren County, VA he was the son of the late William Huel Campbell and Lelia Kathleen Fox Campbell. He was the husband of Dolores M. Shifflett Campbell whom he married in 1954. Donald was retired from Springfield Hospital Center where he had been a food truck driver. He was an automotive mechanic most of his life having worked with Sun Cab in Baltimore and always tinkering with cars over the years. He had driven a cab in Hagerstown for several years as well. He served as a Tank Commander in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Germany in World War II. He enjoyed reading; in particular Popular Science and Mother Earth magazines. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters and sons-in-law: Debra K. and John P. Gillespie of Woodbine and Diane and Neil Green of Sykesville; grandchildren: Meghan, Kelly and John Gillespie, III, Randy, Thomas and Michael Green and Nina Watts and great-grandchildren: Austin, Cody and Dylan Green and Penelope Watts. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10am. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the in his memory.
