Donald Milton Wetzel, 78, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at his son's home in South Carolina.

Born July 2, 1935, in Ladiesburg, he was the son of the late Truman M. and Mildred Clemson Wetzel. He was the husband of Rose Sinnott Wetzel, his wife of 56 years, who died the next day.

He was employed as a diesel mechanic, retiring from Mitchell Transport, of Union Bridge, and Bare Truck Center, of Westminster. Recently he had worked for NAPA Auto Parts.

He was a retired active member of the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, a longtime social member of VFW Post 8806, of Union Bridge; a member of Eagles Aerie No. 2226, of Littlestown, Pa., of American Legion Hesson-Snider Post 120, of Taneytown, and Teamsters Local 992, of Hagerstown. He enjoyed tinkering around his yard and shop.

Surviving are a son, Donald W. Wetzel and wife Vivian, of Lyman, S.C.; grandchildren Donald W. Wetzel Jr. and wife Rachel, of Mauldin, S.C., and Tiffany Forrest and husband Joshua, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; great-grandchildren Ava Grace Wetzel and Grace Eponine Forrest; sisters Ethel M. Bange, and Judith Wolf and husband John, all of Union Bridge; and brothers James M. Wetzel and wife Catherine, and Roy C. Wetzel, all of Union Bridge, Raymond Wetzel and wife Patricia, of Frizzellburg, and Earl Wetzel Sr. and wife Joyce, of Taneytown.

He was predeceased by infant brothers Wayne and Truman Wetzel.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, noon Thursday at Union Bridge Firemen's Activities Building, Whyte and Locust streets, Union Bridge, with his grandson-in-law, the Rev. Joshua Forrest officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Haywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
