Donie Hughes Chatfield, 93, of Westminster and formerly of Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Carroll Lutheran Village where she and her husband reside. Born March 5, 1922 in Jamestown, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Beaulah (Hodgin) Hughes. She was the wife of Edward H. Chatfield, her loving husband of 72 years. She received a Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Baltimore where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1968. Mrs. Chatfield worked for the Social Security Administration as a case worker. During WWII she worked for Glenn L. Martin Company as a quality inspector to support the war effort and where she met her husband. She was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with her family. She and her husband were members of Deer Park United Methodist Church in Gamber. Surviving in addition to her husband are sons and spouses, Thomas E. and Linda Chatfield of Frederick, Dale E. and Paula Chatfield of Westminster and Gary N. and Beth Chatfield of Salisbury; 8 grandchildren, TJ, Holly, Sheri, Kristi, Beth, Greg, Chris and Tim; 15 great-grandchildren and former daughter-in-law Bonnie Chatfield. She was the last of 7 children. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster with Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Resident's Assistance Fund, Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158.
