Doris Larue Hubbard, 80, born December 26, 1933 of Woodsboro passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday September 24, 2014. Known as "Barker" by her family and "Grandma" by her coworkers and friends, Doris was daughter of the late Naomi Lookingbill-Norris and Gene Norris. Her stepfather, Frank Gruber and grandparents, Charlotte and Harry Lookingbill, raised her. She was married to her loving husband, Daniel Hubbard (Barber Dan of Woodsboro) for 64 years. After raising six children and many grandchildren, she fulfilled her dream by going to work in the nursing field. Doris worked at Homewood Retirement Center for 25 years. She was a dedicated employee and loved by all. During her years at Homewood, she connected with many patients and developed special friendships with coworkers. She passed down her love for nursing onto three of her granddaughters. Doris worked side by side with her granddaughters, training and encouraging them. Doris was a beloved member of the community and could frequently be found helping others in need. She was known for her generosity and caring spirit. Friends and family always knew that they would be offered food when visiting. She lived by the motto to give to others that were less fortunate in life. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed sitting in her yard watching birds, squirrels, butterflies, and rabbits. Doris is survived by six children and their families, Cindy & Bill Brashear, Sue & Mike Horman, Danny & Penny Hubbard, Sandra & Bruce Groomes, Frank & Roxanne Hubbard, and Willie Hubbard & friend, Sherry Osteen; She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Doris was proceeded in death by her mother, Naomi Gruber, father, Gene Norris, stepfather, Frank Gruber, granddaughter, Tara Hubbard and grandson in-law, Daniel (DJ) Oliver. A memorial service and lunch will be held at Woodsboro American Legion on Wednesday October 1 at 11:00 AM. Officiated by her brother-in-law, Noah Hubbard and Father Richard Murphy.
