Mrs. Doris Gertrude Mehring Smith, 85, of Littlestown, PA died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at her home after an extended illness. Born March 12, 1930 in Taneytown, she was the daughter of the late Delmont Koons Sr. and Pauline Crebs Koons. She was the wife of William F. Mehring who died in 1970. Doris was a 1947 graduate of Taneytown High School, served as president of her senior class and always looked forward to her class reunions. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Taneytown, where she sang in the choir for many years and served as treasurer for Lay Life. She was a member of Terra Rubra Lions Club. She enjoyed cooking, helping the church "Apple Dumpling Gang" and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are 7 children, Charles Mehring and wife Karen of Keymar; Steven Mehring and wife Alice of Union Bridge; Margaret Stonesifer and husband James and Constance Blettner and husband Charles, all of Taneytown; Nancy Kiser and husband David of Keymar; Marvin Mehring and wife Chris of Woodsboro and Doris P. Mehring of Littlestown; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was predeceased by a son, Frederick W. Mehring and a brother, Delmont Koons Jr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29 at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with Rev. Steven Ostendorf, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Grace U.C.C. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Kiser, Sohn Chaney, Timmy Koons, Stephen Malat, Bobby Eckard and Charles Roser. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, 1-3 and 6-8 p.m Thursday, May 28 and Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
