Doris Sakie Rasche, age 85, of Taneytown, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Lorien Taneytown, after an extended illness. Born February 10, 1930 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Vincent and Statia "Jennie" Stalonis Sakievich. She was the wife of William R. Rasche Sr., who predeceased her in 2001. Mrs. Rasche was a 1948 graduate of Seton High School, Baltimore and a 1952 graduate of Towson State Teachers College. She was a teacher with Carroll County Public Schools from 1964 to 1990, teaching in Taneytown Elementary and Northwest Middle schools. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Taneytown, and an active member of the Republican Women's Club, Taneytown. She served as secretary for the Carroll County Historical Society, and was a member of the Taneytown Historical Society, Maryland Farm Bureau, and numerous educational associations. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending time with her grandchildren, being an avid supporter of their numerous activities. She loved to read and travel to historical destinations. As a teacher, she shared with her family a life-long love of learning. She also enjoyed watching The Baltimore Orioles and Ravens' games on television. Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Teresa and Robert McAndrew of Westminster and Susan Rinker of Taneytown; three sons and daughters-in-law, William R. Jr. and Mary Rasche, Thomas A. and Terry Rasche, and John E. and Teresa Rasche, all of Taneytown; 14 grandchildren, Angie and Brooks Bachtel, Brian and Bethany Rasche, Allen and Mary Rasche, Ben Rasche, Justin, Travis and Trent Rock, Devon and Maura McAndrew, Jessica, Nolan, Nicole, Nadia and Neal Rinker, and Brian Lenz; sister-in-law, Diana Condon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Daniel Rasche in 1994; and sisters, Genevieve Weigman and Bertha Nelson. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge on Thursday, Jan. 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Christian wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD 21787. Msgr. Martin Feild will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church at the above address.
