Dorothy LaRue Long, 89, of Westminster, died January 22, 2015 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born July 19, 1925 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Virginia Bollinger Shettles. She was the wife of the late John Emory Long Jr. who predeceased her in 2004. She was a graduate of New Windsor High school class of 1943. She retired from J.C Penny where she was employed for 15 years. Surviving her is son and daughter-in-law Thomas H. "Tom" and Elaine Long of Union Bridge, and daughter and son-in-law Jeanne M. and "Gene" Ford of Finksburg; a sister Emma Long of Westminster; grandchildren Emily Bates and husband Brian, Ryan and Jonathan Ford; a great-grandson Gavin Bates. She was predeceased by a son, Bernard Carroll Long. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the start services. Rev. Martha Clementson will be officiating. Interment will be in Leister's Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.
