Douglas A. Novak, 57, passed away February 18, 2016 at his home in Smithsburg, MD. Born September 19, 1958, in Colver, PA he grew up in Ebensburg, PA and later lived in Taneytown, MD. He is survived by his children, Andrew Novak of York, PA and Kelsey Novak of Fairfield, PA. He was the son of the late Elmer Novak and Virginia (Litzinger) Novak, of Ebensburg, PA. Surviving in addition to his children are siblings, Monica (Russ) Eckenrod, Cresson, PA; Marilyn (Tom) Schirf, Loretto, PA; Jean (Carl) Katz, York, PA; Linda (Joe) Schirf, Loretto, PA; Fred (Diane) Novak, Ebensburg, PA; Donald "Joe" (Veronica) Novak, Portage, PA; Patricia (Dave) Hurley, Ebensburg, PA; Virginia "Ginnie" Anderson, Ebensburg, PA; and Jeff (Debbie) Novak, Ebensburg, PA. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug had worked as a pipefitter for 24 years at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD until his retirement in 2014. Doug was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many fishing trips with Andy and friends to Lake Anna, VA. Since his retirement, he enjoyed attending local auctions. A mass will be held on Saturday, March 5th at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, PA at 10:30 a.m. for family and friends. A service for those in the Frederick area are pending and will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Scleroderma Foundation.
