Gertrude Robertson, 81, of Union Bridge, MD, died peacefully in her sleep February 4, 2015 at home. She graduated from New Windsor High Class of 1951 and Western MD. College (not McDaniel) in 1956. She worked at Medford Grocery, Murphy's Five & Dime and Springfield State Hospital before working for the Dept. of Social Services, where she retired after 30 years of service in the Child & Adult Food Program. After her retirement she worked with the Human Services Program. Gertrude was the wife of Halbert E. Robertson who died in June 2002. She was the daughter of Maurice & Jeannette Bankerd. Also predeceased was a daughter, Patricia Maggard, a sister and brother-in-law Doris J. and Russell A. Lindsay, her first husband Howard F. Henry, step children Kenneth Henry, Gladys Hall, and Larry Robertson. She is survived by children Maureen Robertson and Ellen Carbaugh, step-children Philip and Tim Henry, Robbie, Bruce and Dean Robertson, 20 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was a life long member of the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren serving as Chairman of the Church Board. She sang in the choir, and played the piano and organ. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters of MD, serving in Westminster, MD. then joining Frederick, where she held all chairs. When Frederick gave up its charter, she returned to Westminster Charity Temple #35, serving as treasurer. She traveled the country to attend Pythian conventions, as well as to Nova Scotia, Canada. She represented Charity Temple at the MD Grand Temple Convention which was held every September. She considered the Pythian brothers and sisters her extended family. She remained friends with her graduating class who held a dinner every year where she enjoyed reminiscing about old times. A memorial will be held at the Pipe Creek Church to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Maureen Robertson, 122 N. Main Street, Union Bridge, MD 21791 to help the family with the cost of the memorial service and other expenses. Donations can also be sent to the Maryland Pythian Sisters, c/o Beverly Dalton, Grand Secretary, 3413 Maple Bluff Lane, Bowie, MD., 20715 for the Grand Chief Project, Dystonia Therapy Research.
