E. LaRue Sipes, age 80, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born June 26, 1935 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Sr. and Bertie Owings Ecker. She was the wife of John A. Sipes, her husband of 59 years. Mrs. Sipes was a 1953 graduate of New Windsor High School. While her husband served in the Army they lived in Germany for 1 ½ years. For many years she was employed as a secretary and with her husband owned and operated Sipes Enterprises. She was an active member of Linwood Brethren Church, where she was a Deaconess and held numerous other positions. She was a founding member of the Sulphur Springs Lioness Club, which transitioned to Sulphur Springs Lions Club, where she was president numerous times. Currently she was a member of the Francis Scott Key Lions Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and various other community organizations. She loved flower gardening, reading, cooking, decorating her home and taking care of her husband and family. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jenny and Rick Klabansky of Myersville and Judy and Michael Duears of Frederick; two sisters, Joyce E. Storey of Taneytown and Grace E. Poole and husband, Richard of Westminster; sister-in-law, Lucy Ecker of Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles H. Ecker Jr. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Dan Ceary, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Linwood Brethren Church, 575 McKinstrys Mill Road, Union Bridge, MD 21791.
