Ethel Naomi Poole Parks, 89, of Catonsville, formerly of Westminster, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

Born April 5, 1924, near Unionville in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Earl Angel Poole and Eva Reese Poole. She was the wife of Charles E. Parks, whom she married in 1953, and who died in December 1979.

She was a 1942 graduate of Westminster High School and a 1945 graduate of Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to marriage, she worked as a pediatric nurse at several hospitals in Baltimore and Galveston, Texas, including Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she cared for "blue babies" before and after their life-saving surgeries. While raising her children, she functioned as the unofficial neighborhood nurse, and later used her nursing expertise to care for several family members with serious illnesses. From 1980 until her retirement, she worked as an R.N. at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital. She enjoyed various needle arts, gardening, antiquing, reading and attending her granddaughter's special events.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Dave Bilger, of Lutherville, and Karen and Roy Lemerise, of Elkridge; and granddaughter Amanda.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Arbutus United Methodist Church, 1201 Maple Ave., Baltimore, MD 21227.
