Earl Leander Miller, 95, of Westminster, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his home. Born on October 4, 1919 in Pleasant Valley, he was the son of the late Theodore and Annie Rodenhouse Miller. He was the husband of Catherine E. Miller who predeceased him on July 24, 2007. He was retired from Blue Diamond Trucking Company in 1981. He was veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Basilan AG68 during WWII. While in the Navy, he ran the ship's shoe repair and was recognized for superior marksmanship which landed him a gunner position on the low of the ship in times of attack. He was also known as the ship's un beatable Acey Deucey Champion among his shipmates. He was liked by all his shipmates and had numerous stories of his many adventures in the Navy that he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed being around his family and friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, clay bird shooting, fishing, and crabbing. He was a member of the American Legion Carroll Post 31, VFW Moleville Farm Post 467, and was a lifetime member of Carroll Ride and Gun Club in Silver Run where he enjoyed the clay bird shooting. He was an Baltimore Oriole fan and watched games on TV and listened to the games on the radio. He also enjoyed being outdoors and loved animals especially his two cats Tommy and Tabby. Surviving him are daughters and sons-in-laws Peggy and Fred E. Gaver of Finksburg and Susan and Michael Corsini of Westminster; grandchildren and spouses Jeffrey and Donna Gaver, Michael E. and Wendy Gaver, Michael T., Jr. and Jessie Corsini, Angela C. and Kevin Curran, and Keri Ann and Josh Brown; and great grandchildren Ethan M. Gaver, Caitlin Gaver, Ela Curran, Eliot Curran, Chiara Corsini, Caterina Corsini, and Joey Corsini. He was the last of 6 sisters and 3 brothers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steven Badorf officiating. Interment will be in Baust Church Cemetery, Tyrone.
