Earl V. Icenroad, 82, of Sykesville, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air.

Born May 16, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William and Saddie Little Icenroad. He was the husband of the late Rose M. Kozak Icenroad, who died April 24, 2011.

He served as a sergeant of the 5th Marine Corp Reserve District from March 1944 to July 1950. Afterward, he became a grocery clerk for A&P Stores of Baltimore. He advanced through the company, holding positions as third man, assistant manager, manager and supervisor. He retired in 1992.

He continued to work in the grocery business as a food broker for Chesapeake and Randall from 1992 to 2002, and then, not wanting to fully retire, he was a courier for Carroll Community Bank at Sykesville and Westminster for several years.

He volunteered at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Libertytown counting the church offerings after each Sunday mass, along with his wife, from 2007 to 2009. He enjoyed long drives, going to movies, vacationing and watching television.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Larry Ambrose, of Havre de Grace; Jerri and Karl Sumwalt, of Bel Air; sons and daughters-in-law James and Sharon Icenroad, of Sykesville; and Michael Icenroad and Tina Finnegan, of Claysburg, Pa.; and grandchildren Lauren Hughes and husband, Jake, of Aberdeen; Krystie Ambrose, of Berlin; Madison Sumwalt, of Bel Air; Christopher Icenroad and wife, Amanda, of Owings Mills; Matthew Icenroad, of Baltimore; Erica Finnegan, of Claysburg, Pa.; and Kyle Icenroad, of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Road) Sykesville.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church (9201 Church Street) Libertytown. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Church Cemetery.
