Edna Faye Hawkins, 81, of Finksburg, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Dec. 29, 1930, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Josephine Faye Cunnigham Gans. She was the wife of Bernard M. "Pete" Hawkins Jr., who died in 2000.

She had attended Strayer Business School, the Peabody and Maryland Institute of Art. She had worked as a secretary for many years, and retired from the Fidelity & Deposit Company.

She sang as a soprano in the Phoenix Choir. She enjoyed playing cards, watching birds and old movies, traveling and photography. She was an accomplished lead artist and a Star Trek fan. She most especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Barbara Faye and Charles Samuel Smith, of Finksburg; a son, Bernard Daniel "Danny" Hawkins, of Hanover, Pa.; and granddaughters Megan Elizabeth Smith and fiance John "Jack" Nelson Stacy, and Shelby Smith.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lou Piel officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
