Edward A. Kennedy, 93, of Hanover, PA, and formerly of Westminster, MD, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA. Born July 1, 1921 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Edward A. and Rita Harrison Kennedy Sr. He was the husband of A. Jane Kennedy his wife of 68 years, who predeceased him in 2013. Ed was a 1939 graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, MD. In response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in September 1942. During World War II, Ed was a toggle/bombardier who flew thirty-three missions, bailing out twice and becoming a Prisoner of War (POW). He was a member of the 387th Bomb Group, 558th Squadron of the 8th and 9th US Army Air Forces. After the war ended, Ed was awarded the Purple Heart and also the Air Force Commendation Medal for serving in the Air Force Reserves from 1955 to 1971. He worked for Black and Decker Manufacturing Company in Towson, MD for 28 years. In 1960, Ed and Jane moved from Towson, MD to Westminster, MD. While living in Westminster for close to 40 years, Ed was active in the Lions' Club as well as participating in all of the reunions of the 387th Medium Bomber Group known as the Marauder Men. In 1999, Ed and Jane moved to Plum Creek Retirement Community in Hanover, PA. Ed and his wife were avid travelers, visiting multiple countries throughout the world. When not traveling, Ed's passions were playing golf, scrapbooking, genealogy, and along with his wife playing with their schnauzers. Surviving him are son and daughter-in-law Edward and Pat Kennedy, of Westminster, MD; daughter Dr. Nancy Kennedy Howard, of Millsboro, DE; grandson Dr. Eric Kennedy and his wife Carol Kennedy, of Lewisburg, PA and great-grandchildren Elizabeth "Ellie" and Calvin. Surviving from his wife's family are nephew Rick Brandt, and wife Patti, of Brookfield, VT and niece Lucy Brandt, of Belcamp, MD and Lucy's children Jim and Esther Givens, of Baltimore, MD and Renea Eisenhour, of Seaford, DE. In addition to being predeceased by his wife, he is also predeceased by his brother Thomas Kennedy, and his sister-in-law Ruth Ford. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 26th, 2015 at 1:30pm at St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church in Westminster, MD. Services handled by PRITTS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, Westminster.
