Edward Boswell Dietrich Sr., 78, of Hampstead, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home.

Born Feb. 21, 1935, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Horace and Winifred Boswell Dietrich. He was the husband of Claudette B. Bowen Dietrich, his wife of 56 years.

He was a graduate of McDonogh Military Academy and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the Naval Reserves from 1953 until 1961. He had been owner operator of Dietrich Bros. Steel and then worked at Ridge Engineering before retirement.

He was a member and past president of the Maryland Trapshooting Association. He enjoyed fly fishing and racing power boats.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Cynthia McGuire and husband James, of Hampstead; a son, Edward Dietrich Jr., of Hampstead; grandsons Jeremy Dietrich and Matthew McGuire, of Hampstead; granddaughters Amanda McGuire and Lauren McGuire, both of Hampstead; brother Horace Dietrich and wife Nancy, of Del Mar, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per his request, all services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospital Center, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
