Edward Douglas "Deter" Stierhoff, 81, of Reisterstown, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born May 5, 1932, in Pikesville, he was the son of the late Oscar Free and Mary Rose Eckman Stierhoff. He was the husband of Shirley Lee Vaughn Stierhoff, his wife of 61 years.

He was a retired dental technician. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Owings Mills VFW, and Deer Park United Methodist Church in Reisterstown. He enjoyed fishing and boating at his home in Ocean City, and liked to work in his garden.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Diane L. Morris, of Finksburg, Deborah L. Hitt, of Baltimore, and E. Douglas Stierhoff Jr. and wife Marci, of Reisterstown; siblings Mary Emma Esworthy, and Harry and Charles Stierhoff, all of Owings Mills; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Howard and Oscar Stierhoff.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Deer Park United Methodist Church, 6107 Deer Park Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136.
