Edward Francis Hood, 75, of Hagerstown, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Thursday, Dec. 16, 1937, in Westminster, he was the son of the late George Francis Hood and Eva Pauline Stitley Hood Bankard. He was the husband of Joanne Couzens Hood, his wife of 49 years.

He was employed with Burroughs Corporation (Unysis) for 32 years, and then owned and operated Market Lot Liquors for 27 years. He was in the Maryland National Guard in the 29th Division, 110 Field Artillery. He was a member of the Region 29th Division Association Inc., Jerome L. Day Post 48, also served in the Army Reserve in Hagerstown.

He was a member of the North American Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post 212 and the Maugansville Historic Society. He enjoyed traveling and taking cruises, and especially enjoyed time spent in Hawaii.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Tanya Starr and husband Travis, of Williamsport, and Tricia Strite and husband Warren, of Clear Spring; and a son, Edward F. Hood II, of Hagerstown.

He was predeceased by a stepfather, Russell Bankard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Renee Mackey officiating. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Cemetery in Westminster.
