Edward P. Holland, 78, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at home.

Born Aug. 1, 1936, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward P. Holland Sr. and Grace Tydings Holland. He was the husband of Sherlynn Gamber Holland, his wife of 56 years.

A 1955 graduate of Baltimore City College, he served as a staff sergeant in the medic department of the National Guard during the Vietnam War. He retired after 40 years of employment with CSX Corporation as the director of state income and excise taxes.

He was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was active with the Grandview Seniors. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a family man, and an avid reader who enjoyed puttering around the house.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Paul Holland and wife Martha, of Westminster, Joseph Holland and husband Jean Caufriez, of Baltimore, and Christopher Holland and wife Aliisa, of Hanover; grandchildren Rachel Marie Holland, Elizabeth Grace Holland and fiance Matthew Green, Christian Paul Owens Holland, Kyle Michael Holland and Sydney Margaret Holland; and a brother, John Charles Holland, of Baltimore.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, with a prayer service being held at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, with the Rev. Monsignor James M. Lyons as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
