Elizabeth H. "Beth" Sparks, 84, of New Windsor, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson.

Born Feb. 27, 1928, in Evergreen, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Marvin A. and Winona Simmons Hanks. She was the wife of her George O. "Sparky" Sparks Jr., her husband of 65 years.

She was a graduate of Evergreen High School and the University of Alabama where she met her husband in an accounting class.

She was an accountant for many years and also worked as a real estate agent with Grempler, Long & Foster, and the Billingslea Agencies of Carroll County.

She was an avid University of Alabama fan and member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Baltimore Chapter of Women Accountants Association, past treasurer of the Maryland State Garden Clubs, and past president of the Carroll County Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and was very involved with her children's school activities.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Rebecca W. Sparks, of Lafayette, Calif., and George O. "Buddy" Sparks III and wife Marcy, of Jarrettsville; granddaughters Lauren A. Grasmick and Samantha J. Smith; a grandson, Tyler J. Sparks; a great-granddaughter, Delylah A. Grasmick; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Marvin A. Hanks Jr.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the memorial service, 5 p.m. Saturday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with the Rev. Walter W. Peters officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Presbyterian Home for Children, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL 35161.
