Elizabeth Leight "Aunty Libby" "Libbus Lite" Barnes Henderson, 97, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at home, at the Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville.

Born Oct. 23, 1915, in Sykesville, she was the daughter of the late Rachel Ann Leight Barnes and Joshua Franklin Barnes Sr. She was the wife of Brice Henderson, who died in 1974.

She was the third of four children, growing up with two brothers and a sister. Church and school activities occupied her life before graduating from Sykesville High School in 1932. She attended Baltimore Business College and then worked as a secretary at the Maryland Milling Supply Company in Sykesville, First Methodist Church in Baltimore, and Bendix Radio Corporation in Towson.

In 1954, she married her husband, whom she met years earlier while working at Maryland Milling Supply Company. He owned Henderson Lumber Company in Ellicott City and she worked with him in the business until they sold it in 1970. They had no children.

After her husband's death, she found enjoyment in traveling. These adventures took her to the British Isles, the Scandinavian countries, Acapulco, the Holy Land, Alaska, Iceland, Egypt, China, and Hawaii, and throughout the U.S. with her sister Ethel and her husband Charles, attending wildlife festivals and competitions.

She was a long-time member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City, where she was involved with the Women's Circles. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Freedom Chapter No. 87 of Eldersburg and a member of Bou-Tem-Sci.

In 1998, she sold the home that she and her husband built in 1956 and moved to Fairhaven, just blocks away from her childhood home in Sykesville. She enjoyed being the center of attention, a good laugh and experiencing life to the fullest. She enjoyed dressing "to the nines" everyday.

Surviving are eight nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews; and eight great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings Louis Horpel Barnes, Joshua Franklin Barnes Jr., and Ethel Melville Barnes Berry.
