Elsie Catherine Schmitt Knight, 92, of Littlestown, Pa., formerly of Reisterstown, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Dove House in Westminster.

Born July 10, 1920, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Klotzbach Schmitt. She was the wife of Donald Kerkhoff Knight, her husband of 71 years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Reisterstown for more than 30 years before moving to Warfordsburg, Pa., where she lived on a farm with her husband until their move to Littlestown, Pa., in 1990. She devoted her life to her family, raising seven children with her husband.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters Elsie "Mitzi" Daugherty, Suann Spalding and husband Ronald, Lois Jean Szymanski and husband Daniel; sons Donald Richard Knight and wife Martha, Charles William Knight and wife Annie, and James Louis Knight; a son-in-law, Phillip Stacks; grandchildren Amy Lowman, Laura Speier, Erin Sarabia, Carroll "Tabbie" Howard, Lisa Bailey, Sydney "Buster" Lucas, Brian Knight, Phyllis Porter, Cathy Gist, Jason Spalding, Brandi Schmelz, Shannon Meyers and Ashley Miles; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Martha A. Stacks; a sister, Hilda Marie Wilson; and a grandchild, Kenneth Wayne Knight.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Melissa Rudolph officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
