Erle B. Arnold Sr., age 99, formerly of Middleburg, died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his residence at Brightview, Westminster Ridge. Born September 27, 1917 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Mabel Bransflick Arnold. He was raised by his foster parents, the late Nelson W. and Gladys Myers. He was the husband of Rosetta P. Arnold, his wife of 76 years, who died in 2015. Mr. Arnold was a member of Middleburg United Methodist Church. He had been employed for 15 years at Windsor Shoe Co., Littlestown, PA and then for 23 years at Lehigh Portland Cement Co., Union Bridge. He was an honorary member of the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Co. Erle played baseball with the Middleburg Red Sox and managed a Babe Ruth baseball team in Union Bridge. He was an avid Baltimore Oriole and Ravens fan, enjoyed watching sports on television, listening to music of the 1940's era and with his wife, had traveled to all 48 contiguous states. Surviving are daughter, R. Gail Angell and husband John of Westminster; son, Erle B. Arnold Jr. and wife Nancy of Union Bridge; 4 grandchildren, Vicki, Paula, Karen and Eddie and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a great grandson. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Deacon Charles Barnhart, pastor of Keysville Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Keysville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 26.
