Ethel E. Tilden, 86, formerly of Finksburg, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home in Keyser, West Virginia, where she had lived for the last four years.

Born March 17, 1928, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Matilda Schuessler Emge. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Louis J. Coleman and the late Philip V. Tilden Jr.

She was a 1945 graduate of Patterson High school, and maintained a lifelong friendship with "The Girls" with whom she graduated.

She was an executive secretary for many engineering and real estate development firms; she was part of the Rouse Company when it developed Columbia. While living in Finksburg with Phil, she was an active member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, serving as church secretary for many years.

She enjoyed playing the piano, and kept her father's piano with her through her many moves. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening and avidly followed the Baltimore Orioles, passions that were all shared with and ingrained into her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time with her large extended family that included many nieces and nephews as well as friends.

Surviving are children and spouses F. Lee and Kelly Coleman, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Susan and Jack Moody, of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, Nancy and Doug Parson, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, and Patricia and Michael Gardner, of Minneola, Florida; stepchildren and spouses Kay and Pat Tilden, of Prosperity, South Carolina, Philip Tilden III, of Baltimore, Jill and Jerry Kraft, of Keyser, West Virginia, and Jay Tilden, of Bethesda; grandchildren Jeremy, James and Josh Tippet, Phil Tilden, Matt Kraft, Ashly Knaggs, Alexandra and Travis Moody, Jacob Gardner, Paul and Beth Michel and Josh and Justin Parson; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Clara Markel; and an aunt, Helen Schuessler.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. June 28 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 3006 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 3006 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD 21048; or to a local humane society.
