Eugene Leroy Ensor, 95, formerly of Westminster, MD, died July 10, 2016 at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA. Mr. Ensor was born December 1920 in Manchester, MD, son of Milton L. and Berzie Beaver Ensor. He was the husband of M. Alice Duvall Ensor, his wife of 57 years, who died in 1999. He was raised in a family business, Ensor's Grocery Store on East Green St., Westminster. He was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1938, and Eastern University, Maryland School of Accounting, Baltimore. Mr. Ensor served as a sergeant with the Army in World War II with the G-3 Section of 6th Division in New Guinea and the Philippines, receiving two Bronze Stars, then spent time in Korea. After the war, he worked for Jameson-Barnsley Auto Dealership, then worked for 25 years with Snap-On Tool Corporation (11 years as a dealer with a tool truck, plus 14 years as an industrial representative). After retiring in March 1986, he and his wife, Alice, joined National Camping Travelers and Maryland Square Riggers Ch. #2, as well as Chapter #111 Holiday Rambler R.V. Club. He enjoyed camping, golfing (member MD Senior Golf Association), and many craft hobbies. Mr. Ensor was a life member of Carroll Post 31 American Legion and Post 467 VFW and a 76-plus year member of Westminster United Methodist Church where he served on the board and many committees. As a charter member of the Westminster Civitan Club, he had 33 years of perfect attendance and served as president and lt. governor of the district. He was a member of the board and served 2 ½ years as President of Carroll County ARC, and a member of the Medford Grange, receiving a 65-year membership award. As a Mason, he was a member of the Door to Virtue Lodge No. 46 A.F. & A.M., York Rite Bodies, Past Commander of Carroll Commandry No. 17, Boumi Temple, Western Maryland Shrine Club, and Bee Hive Club. As he enjoyed playing golf, he had been a member of Wakefield Valley and Quail Valley Golf Clubs. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Myers of Rockwood, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dale and Ginger Ensor of Cookeville, TN; grandson Douglas and wife Debbie Myers of Columbus, OH; granddaughter Dr. Lynne Myers Berry and husband Joe Berry of Villa Rica, GA; granddaughter Dr. Melissa Ensor Freiderich and husband Dr. John Freiderich of Oak Ridge, TN; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Joseph, and Jordyne Berry, Emma and Olivia Myers; and a devoted friend Katherine (Kate) Koontz of Hanover. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Ensor of Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 254 East Main St., Westminster, with The Rev. Malcolm Stranathan and The Rev. Dr. David Highfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Stone Chapel Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Homewood at Plum Creek at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westminster United Methodist Church, 155 East Main St., Westminster, MD 21157 or The Homewood at Plum Creek Benevolent Endowment Fund, Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331.
