Eugene Harold "Gene" Riecke, 83, of Hampstead, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Carroll Hospital Center. Gene was born on April 10, 1934 in Baltimore and was the son of the late Harold William and Gertrude (Frederick) Riecke. He was the loving husband of Marilyn Dicus Riecke, his wife of 63 years. Gene was a 1952 graduate of Glen Burnie High School. He was a veteran of the Navy Reserves in the Submarine Division. Gene was employed as a shipping clerk at Procter and Gamble in Baltimore, and retired in 1992 after 36 years of employment. He was an active member of Church of the Open Door and played trombone in the church orchestra. He was an avid fisherman and particularly enjoyed bay fishing and surf fishing. He loved to travel with his wife to the beach in Ocracoke Island, NC. In past years Gene liked to do wood working and carpentry. Surviving him in addition to his wife are daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia L. and Jeffrey Thomas of Westminster, Susan A. and John Seifer of Chambersburg, PA; daughters-in-law Patricia Ringgold of Solon, IA, Angela Boerner of Manchester; grandchildren Heather M. Horst, Jeremy L. Horst and companion Karley Bayer, David A. Brehm and wife Marcia, Ryan T. Brehm, Meagan G. Whitson and husband Todd, Jonathan W. Riecke and companion Samantha Demaris, Brittany A. Braxton and husband Joel; great-grandchildren Noah J. Whitson, Alec Braxton, Geneva Braxton, Elliott Braxton; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons Jeffrey E. Riecke and Wayne A. Riecke; and grandchildren Joshua A. Horst and Cary E. Riecke. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. John Campbell, Rev. Chuck Buettner, and Rev. Sterling Walsh officiating. Interment will be held in Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie.
