Finbarr Cornelius Murphy, 59, of Hampstead, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born Aug. 11, 1954, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Finbarr and Corine Devlin Murphy.

He had worked as a police officer with the Baltimore County Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. He was a member of Westminster Lodge No. 2277, B.P.O. Elks and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Jessica Lynn and Josh Smith, of Taneytown; a son, Finbarr Patrick Murphy, of Hampstead; a grandson, Joshua Finbarr Smith, of Taneytown; brothers and sisters-in-law Daniel and Jo Beth Murphy, of Hampstead, Dennis and Tana Murphy, of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Michael and Marcia Murphy, of Westminster; sister and brother-in-law Corine and Chris Schuster, of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, with Monsignor Lloyd Aiken as celebrant. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.
