Florence Estelle German Curtis, 102, of Windsor Mill, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in Catonsville, at St. Martin's Home for the Aged.

Born March 15, 1911, in Howard County, she was the daughter of Benedict H. German and Catherine F. Boone German. She was married to the late Melvin Mundie Curtis.

She was farm-raised and hardworking. She learned to sew as a young girl from her mother and grandmother and later became a seamstress for Sealy Corporation. She was an avid reader, especially of books and articles on history and religion.

Family and friends looked her to as an inspiration. She remained in her own home until she celebrated her 100th birthday and was cared for by Little Sisters of the Poor for the last two and a half years. She enjoyed talking on the phone with her family. She was known for never complaining and being always willing to help others.

Surviving are son Melvin A. Curtis and wife Janice; grandchildren Gregory and Matthew Curtis and their wives; four great-grandchildren; sisters Lorraine Fralin and Barbara Slade; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by sister Katherine McCullough; and brothers Joseph and B. Henry German.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, MD 21228.
