Mrs. Frances Kitty Gorsuch "Frannie" Metcalfe, 95, of New Windsor died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at her home. Born June 10, 1920 in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late George Clifton and Edna Buckey Gorsuch. She was the wife of Charles Reese Metcalfe who died in 1972. Mrs. Metcalfe was a member of Linganore United Methodist Church, Unionville, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher. As a young adult, Frannie worked at the Social Security Administration, Baltimore. She returned to the Frederick County farm that she and her husband had purchased where she lived the remainder of her life. In 1966 she began her employment with Carroll County Foods, a local food service business started by her brother and sister-in-law, George and Jane Gorsuch, which later sold to Performance Food Group. Frannie was a life member of the 4-H All Stars. She started the Sams Creek Girls 4-H Club and was the club leader for many years. She was a member of Forest Oak Questers, an organization devoted to historical preservation and restoration. She enjoyed gardening, hosting extended family gatherings for reunions and holidays, traveling to National Quester conventions and doing some international traveling with her family. She took great pleasure in watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Surviving are 2 daughters, Kitty L. Metcalfe and companion, Rich Horman, New Windsor; Marian Fry and husband Edwin of Chestertown; son, C. Richard Metcalfe and wife Ruth Ann of Taneytown; 3 grandchildren, Amanda Fry Halla and husband David, Edwin Charles Fry and wife Kathryn and Matthew Ransome Fry and wife Megan, 7 great grandsons and a brother, Frank Gorsuch and wife Beverly of Union Bridge. She was predeceased by a son, James Gorsuch Metcalfe in 1964, 2 sisters, Ethel Schneider and Jeannette George and 2 brothers, George and Merton Gorsuch. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21 at Linganore United Methodist Church, 8919 Clemsonville Rd., with Rev. David Coakley, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 20.
