Frank A. Dell, 89, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, as a result of an automobile accident on Dec. 5, 2012.

Born Oct. 31, 1923, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Albert K. and Edna Giggard Dell. He was the husband of Doris Schmidt Dell, his wife of 65 years.

He was a self employed artificial cattle inseminator. He was an Army veteran of World War II. During his military years he served in the 17th Airborne as a paratrooper. He was a combat medic in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, where he saved many lives.

He was a member of the Westminster V.F.W. He was also a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester.

He began working with Dr. Irvin Frock, a Manchester veterinarian, at age 13. He resumed his association with Dr. Frock after the war, working as a veterinarian technician eventually specializing in the area of artificial insemination, working at farms in Carroll, Baltimore and Frederick counties and Pennsylvania until his death.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Jeffrey L. Dell and wife Poldi, of Centreville, Va., and Randy A. Dell and his fiancee, of Millsboro, Del.; grandchildren Danielle, Emily, Janie and Joseph Dell; a goddaughter, Cathy Walton; sisters Ann Vendetta, of Hawaii, Flo Cook, of Virginia, and Mary Bosley, Violet Black and Esther Yingling, all of Pennsylvania; a brother, John Dell, of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by siblings Lillian Uhler, Ruth Leese, Dorothy Hastings, June Bumgardner and Melvin Dell.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester; and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church St., Manchester, with the Revs. Matthew and Norma Schenning officiating. Interment will be in New Lutheran Cemetery in Manchester.
