Frank Herbert Libman, 93, formerly of Westminster, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his home.

Born Oct. 7, 1919, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Strauss Libman. He was the husband of the late Sophia Meredith Libman, his wife of 55 years.

He was a 1936 graduate of DeWitt High School in New York and a 1940 graduate of MIT as a chemical engineer.

He was employed immediately after graduating MIT by Congoleum as a chemist and engineer and worked there until 1948. He then went to work for the family owned Coca-Cola business, which he owned and operated until May 1991. He also owned and operated Westminster Hardware/Plumbing Heating & Supply.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sophia, visiting a total of 46 states and five continents. He also enjoyed flying, playing duplicate bridge, tennis and poke, boating, stained glass, photography, gardening, woodworking, and collecting antiques, including glass canes.

He was a member of many organizations including Kiwanis, which he was president of and was instrumental in the organization of the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was past president of the Chamber of Commerce; co-chair of the Airport Commission, where he was influential in the expansion of Westminster Airport; vice-president of Carroll County Industrial Development Commission; president and treasurer of the Carroll Players; chairman of the Maryland Coca-Cola Bottlers Association; chairman of the Maryland Soft Drink Association and served on the foundation Board of the Carroll Community College, YMCA Board and the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation Board.

Education was important to him. He established a chair at Hood College, in conjunction with National Endowment of the Arts and a nursing scholarship at Carroll Hospital Center for Carroll Community College nursing students perusing their RN degrees.

Surviving are children David and wife Janet Libman, of Salt Lake City, and William C. and Frank M. Libman, of Westminster; sister Jean Libman Gollay, of Florida; grandchildren Becca and husband Brian Davidson and Jason Libman, all of California; and great-granddaughters Hailey, Jessica and Taylor Davidson, of California.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Baltimore Hebrew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, Libman Nursing Scholarship Fund, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
