Frank Walter Kowalski Sr., 88, of Westminster, died Jan. 24, 2013, at his home.

Born June 8, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of the late Theodore and Dominica Romatowski Kowalski. He was the husband of the late Agnes Virginia Nida Kowalski, who died Oct. 20, 2012.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a health aide at Springfield State Hospital for many years. In 1982, he saved the life of one of his patients by performing the Heimlich maneuver.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading.

Surviving are children and spouses Kathleen Overall of Pine Forge, Pa.; Frank Kowalski Jr., of Westminster; Walter and Deborah Kowalski, of Sykesville; Dominic and Michele Kowalski, of Westminster; Mark Kowalski, of Dundalk; John Kowalski, of Baltimore; Mary Anne Kowalski, of Westminster; and David and Sue Kowalski, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his immediate family.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. The Rev. Larry Adamczyk will be officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21157.
