Franklin Earl Deardorff, 81, of Westminster, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born March 9, 1931, in Bird Hill, Westminster, he was the son of the late Lester E. and Ethel C. Bitzel Deardorff. He was the husband of Dolores Wilkinson Deardorff, who he married in 1977 and who died in December 2000.

He was a 1949 graduate of Westminster High School. He then served in the Navy at Norfolk Naval Base from 1951 until 1954.

He had been the owner of Harbour House Liquors in Westminster from 1979 until his retirement in 1998. Prior to that, he was an accountant for most of his life and had worked for Koontz Creamery from 1955 until 1969, and then Smith and Reifsnider Lumber Company from 1970 until 1979.

He attended Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching all sports, reading about Abraham Lincoln and enjoyed visiting historic Gettysburg. He enjoyed Maryland crabs and oysters.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Dorinda Deardorff-Derreth and husband Larry, of Eldersburg, and Delaine Deardorff-Beck and husband Peter, of Sykesville; siblings L. Herbert Deardorff, of York, Pa., and Alice Deardorff Lockard, of Westminster; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; and former wife, Loretta Jean Zentgraf Deardorff, of Eldersburg.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jean A. Deardorff; a sister-in-law, Jean Long Deardorff.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at noon Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Clementson, from Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Kriders Cemetery.
