Fred C. Sitzler, 96, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at his residence at Homewood at Plum Creek on Sunday, October 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Inge Sitzler. They had been married for 73 years. Born June 10, 1919 in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Friedrich and Margarete Sitzler. Fred attended Stuttgart Technical University in Stuttgart, Germany where he received a degree in engineering. Fred immigrated to the United States in 1949. He lived in Baltimore, MD, where he was employed at Middlestadt Machine Co., before accepting an engineering position with Berg Electronics which later became part of DuPont. While at DuPont, he was responsible for creating fifteen patents. He lived in Mechanicsburg and Dillsburg prior to moving to Hanover in 1989, following his retirement. Fred enjoyed traveling, stamp collecting, puzzle solving, and volunteering, and he loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his two daughters, Dagmar Rapp and husband Don of Oldsmar, FL, Helga Anderson and husband Dave of Hanover. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Alan and Craig Rapp, Tina Reifsnyder, and Krista Sandoval, four great grandchildren, Nicholas Reifsnyder, Clayton and Marie Rapp, and Samantha Newlin, three great step grandchildren, Remington Reifsnyder and Nick and Cally Sandoval, and one great- great grandson, Caleb, as well as several nieces and nephews in Germany. A memorial service will be held 11AM, Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 to 11 AM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions in Fred's name be made to Homewood Benevolent Fund c/o Homewood at plum creek, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
