Fred Robert "Bud" Groth, 85, of Westminster, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at home.

Born June 28, 1927, in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the son of the late Fred J. and Elizabeth Seymour Groth. He was the husband of Betty Stuller Groth, who he married in 1950.

He served in the Navy during World War II and after that was in the Maryland National Guard and Reserves in Westminster for 25 years. He was a salesman, retiring from Dryden Oil. He had previously worked for Massey Ferguson and Warner Lambert.

He enjoyed playing golf, watching old Western movies and tinkering in his garage with lawnmowers. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2226 in Littlestown, Pa., Carroll Post 31 American Legion and Molleville Farm Post 467 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Miles R. Groth, and Melissa P. and Henry Sikorski, all of Westminster, and Julia E. and Larry Eckhart, of Glenville, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law Walter and Debbie Groth, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren and spouses Jason and Beth Groth, Zachary Groth, Jesse Groth, Michael and Angie Eckhart, Amanda and Kyle Palmer, and Paul and Erin Sikorski; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mitzi Hudson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, where Carroll Post 31 American Legion will hold a service at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at at the funeral home, with Post 31 Chaplain Phil Luster officiating. Interment will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, attn: Carroll County Regional Cancer Center, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
